Dear Family,
What an
eventful week! So last week was a rainy
week in Nashville. On Tuesday we went
out to see this guy who lived on this short dirt road. Well because of the rain it was muddy. We made it to the man’s house and he wasn't
home. So we went to make a u-turn and
sure enough we got stuck. For the next two and a half hours I pushed the car in
the hot sun and the stinky mud while Elder Hatch drove that car back and forth,
which only availed to getting us more stuck. Finally one of the neighbors came out and
helped us. He was a big guy with a
scruffy beard, he didn't fit into his shorts so they were undone in the front
and only held up by his belt, big beer belly, and had a thick southern accent. After some digging, a hydraulic jack, and a
good old two by four he helped us get out of the mud. And proceeded
to make fun of us for being the city folk we are. He said he wasn't interested
in our message, so we greatly thanked him for the help and left.
Now he also
told us before we left that we would have to take off every tire and wash
the mud out of the rims. So we cleaned
all the tires, thought we had everything in order, drove the car around a
little and it made this terrible scraping noise. That day we had scheduled to go out to an
investigator’s pond who invited us to go fishing and have a fish fry after,
which is pretty much my dream investigator. So needless to say I was a little angry at
that moment because the car had to break right before we had to go. I was worried I would have to cancel yet
another time of fishing because we would need to take the car to get fixed. I tried my best to remain positive and
faithful throughout the whole ordeal.
Just as
promised in the scriptures, you do not receive a witness until after the trial
of your faith. I was sitting in personal
study and I said a prayer and turned to a random page in the Book of Mormon. I can't quote it exactly but it said "I
know these things trouble thy heart at this time, and let me tell you of these
things that it might ease thy troubles." I received a witness from the spirit that
Heavenly Father heard me, knows me individually, and cares about me. I just felt peaceful and full of the spirit
after that.
Then a
member named Brother Karst, who has helped us out time and time again, said he
would come over and take a look at it. He
came over and within five minutes he had it fixed. I know today that Heavenly Father cares about
us and loves us more than we can fully comprehend. It is a love never to be forgotten and one
that needs to be shared, especially in today's times. I love you all so much!
Love,
